Final Reflection

2) What sticks out to you as the most formative experience? The experience that you'll remember years later?
The most formative experience in this class was actually acting like and preparing like I was about to open my own business. It has left me feeling more empowered as if I am the one in control of how I spend my time, my resources, and my energy. If not for this class, I doubt that I would ever pursue a business opportunity or even contemplate such action.
What was your most joyous experience?
My favorite assignment would perhaps be the one in which we had to contemplate personal failures. I do not often pause long enough to think on past actions and how I can do better for myself and those around me. Taking time to ponder truly is liberating as to how the future will play out as much as it is redeeming my time spent in self pity.
What experience are you most proud of yourself for accomplishing?
I am most proud of speaking the others about something that directly benefits me. What I mean to say by this is my initial instinct in interactions is to speak to others about things they care about. I generally do not wish to will others into a specific conversation topic especially noty one in which I am personally invested. Being able to bring up things that I care about to complete strangers in hopes that they might see the value in my idea, it was a completely foreign experience. I do hope that I can continue with not only this idea, but also this perspective, that opinions are not set in stone and I can influence what others think.
3) At the beginning of the semester, I mentioned that I wanted each of you to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Now, at the end, do you see yourself as an entrepreneur?
Honestly, I do not see myself as an entrepreneur. Like all careers, they are not meant for a lifetime. I do not see myself as an entrepreneur because it really isn't all that relevant to my personal identity. I want to do far more with my life then become an entrepreneur.

Do you think you have moved closer to developing an entrepreneurial mindset?
I would say most definitely. This class has taught me many things about the entrepreneurial process and persona, but it also has shown me the facets of said mindset that I already possess. Perseverance, for example, is a character trait that I possess and have in common with most successful entrepreneurs.

4) What is the one recommendation you would make to the students who are going to journey down this path in the future?
To any future student, I would say, "Learn everything you can." This is and probably will always be the one course where you can be edgy and experimental without risking your grade.
What would you recommend they do to perform best in this course?
Stay on top of assignments, watch lectures, and do not forgo spending time doing either or you will not succeed.
What would you recommend they do to foster that mindset?
I stand by my statement above, "Learn everything you can." At some point in your life, all of the material in this class will become important to you or someone you love. So write these things down, remember them, put them into practice, do whatever needs to be done so that you'll remember the lessons you learned in this class.

  1. Hey Maeghan,
Hearing about your take away from the class was interesting for me. You are going into a completely unrelated field, but you are still aware of the benefits that this class and the mindset it talks about can bring over. Meanwhile, you are still able to say that you do not feel like an entrepreneur because you do not want to be one, despite having all of the skill that qualifies you as such.

  2. Maeghan,
I really found myself relating to your post, and I found that making time for my work, as it pertains to this class, really helped me do better. Additionally, I never thought about the creative freedom this class offers. Like it isn’t like math or science, in which there’s a definite right or wrong, but we’re able to experiment and find the best solution for us. I personally feel as if this class has helped me grow in more ways than one. But your post was awesome, thank you for sharing!
